Class Placement & Advancement
Students have two opportunities during the season to move up in class level:
-
At the start of a new season (following our end-of-season showcase)
-
In January (after the Halloween Show and year-end evaluations)
Our teachers conduct ongoing evaluations throughout the season, focusing on six key areas of student development:
-
Attitude
-
Maturity & Focus
-
Consistency & Technique
-
Musicality & Counts
-
Performance Quality & Stage Presence
-
Knowledge of Terminology
When a teacher believes a student is ready to advance, they meet with the Studio Director to review the student’s progress and determine the best next step for their continued growth.
Beyond our Minis program, dancers enter a leveled class system that begins at Level 1/1A and progresses through Level 5. You can find out more about the level and age recommendations HERE. Each level is designed to be completed over multiple years, allowing students time to fully absorb the material. Unlike school grades, our class levels are based on skill mastery, which means students of varying ages and abilities may be in the same level.
Because every dancer progresses at their own pace, the flexibility to move students up twice per season ensures that they are promoted when they are truly ready.
Our curriculum is built on national, state, and developmental dance standards across all styles we teach. Our experienced faculty are well-equipped to support students at every level. While there is usually an adjustment period after a student moves up, our structured curriculum ensures continuity in their learning.
If a student would like more personalized feedback on how to advance, we offer "Level Up!" appointments. These sessions provide in-depth insight into expectations and specific goals to help dancers accelerate their progress. To schedule, just email us at info@thedancenetworksb.com.
We’re always happy to answer any questions about class placements, evaluations, levels, or our curriculum. Please don’t hesitate to reach out!
